In October we joined a group of friends to check out the Paestum hot air balloon festival.  The ruins of Paestum are the remnants of an ancient Greek city on the coast of the Tyrrhenian sea in southern Italy.  The ruins date back to 600 to 450 BC and are in great shape for being so old!  The city walls and amphitheater are all in tact.   The festival is held every fall in Paestum and it is a wonderful site to see the balloons rising up over the ruins.  There is a lot of open area that was great for the kiddos to run and play in.

On the way we stopped at a mozzarella di bufala farm for lunch.  We got to see the buffalo and even pet them.  The kids got to play in the beautiful gardens and then we enjoyed one of the best meals I’ve had in Italy and definitely the best cappuchino… the buffalo cream made it so perfect!

Paestum would be a great place to visit anytime of the year (especially if you have kiddos!) but I’m so glad we went for the balloons, it was a wonderful day with great company!
